Teaching with Mindfulness (K12)
Patricia A. Jennings, a University of Virginia professor, examines how the social and emotional environment within the classroom affects student learning. Her book, Mindfulness for Teachers, encompasses her current research and gives readers a background into the connections between mindful practices, brain chemistry and classroom dynamics. The book explores how mindfulness can be implemented into the classroom to achieve a healthier and more productive environment.
Participants in this class, through reading and research, will explore how mindfulness can benefit student learning. They will also investigate special topics and integrate new learning into their teaching environment.
This course is equivalent to 3 semester hours or 4.5 quarter hours. It is a graduate level course and intended for K-12 educators who have completed a bachelor’s degree. It is recommended that you receive board or district approval before registering with Teachers’ Professional Advancement Institute.
