Dave Stuart Jr. expands his professional development mission “to encourage and equip educators on the journey to long-term flourishing and professional excellence” in his bestselling book, These Six Things: How to Focus Your Teaching on What Matters Most.
The author uses his experiences as a high school teacher and professional development leader to focus modern literacy teaching into six key areas: motivation, knowledge-building, argument, reading, writing, and speaking. He argues that if these six areas can be taught effectively across disciplines, then students will be equipped with the tools to not just succeed but to flourish in and out of school.
In his book, Dave Stuart Jr. takes the reader through the tested methods, strategies and research backed practices that will make this possible.
Educators taking this course, through reading and research, will explore how to teach and implement practices to improve students’ reading, writing, speaking, and thinking. Educators will also investigate special topics and integrate new learning into their teaching environment.
This course is equivalent to 3 semester hours or 4.5 quarter hours. It is a graduate-level course and intended for K-12 educators who have completed a bachelor’s degree. It is recommended that you receive board or district approval before registering with TPAI.
